"The sludge is high in water content, easy to rot, and has a strong odor. It also contains a large number of pathogenic bacteria, parasite eggs, and a large number of toxic and harmful heavy metals." Qi Jihong, chief engineer of Huangjiang Sludge Treatment Plant, said that if not properly treated, it will bring secondary pollution to water and soil. At present, 34 sewage treatment plants in Dongguan can produce thousands of tons of sludge per day.
"We invested 390 million yuan to build a sludge treatment plant in Huangjiang, and the equipment was installed and put into trial operation last July." At present, there are 35 special transport vehicles in the sludge treatment plant. At the same time, in order to ensure safety, each vehicle is equipped with a satellite positioning monitoring device and emergency measures for sludge leakage. "During the trial operation, the daily handling capacity is more than 500 tons." Qi Liren, director of the R&D center of the factory, said that the daily handling capacity can exceed 800 tons at the peak before the Spring Festival. After the completion of all sewage interceptors in the city, even if the total amount of sludge continues to increase, the treatment capacity of the plant can meet the demand.

"Sludge is difficult to treat, because its water content is more than 80%." Qi Jihong told reporters that the water content of the sludge from the sewage treatment plant was compressed to 80% after one treatment. At this time, the sludge appears to be in a semi fluid state. If it is difficult to press water again just by machine, secondary treatment is required. "We added a dehydrating agent to modify the sludge, reduce it to a fluid state, and then carry out mechanical dehydration." Qi Jihong said, reducing the water content of the sludge to 40%, and then recycling.
Qi Jihong made a settlement for the reporter. 1000 tons of sludge with a moisture content of 80%, after modified dehydration, the sludge is 330 tons with a moisture content of 40%. "With our treatment method, the sludge can be reduced by 65% in weight and 75% in volume." Qi Jihong said that sludge can also become a variety of "treasures". In front of the reporter, Qi Jihong took out a plastic grain the size of a rice grain. "This is the engineering plastic granules produced from sludge." Qi Jihong said that the sludge with a moisture content of 40% was crushed and dried into ultra-fine powder with a moisture content of less than 1% as a plastic modification filler, and then the engineering plastic modification technology was used to modify the sludge powder. The transport vehicle first stops at the unloading area. The unloading area is divided into three ports, and the transport vehicle will discharge the sludge to the designated unloading port according to the classification of the sludge transported by the sewage treatment plant. "We have classified the sludge of 38 sewage treatment plants in advance, and we have divided them into those with excessive heavy metal content and those with the same and similar components." Qi Jihong said that if the heavy metal content exceeds the standard, report it to the environmental protection department for treatment according to the hazardous waste standard.
The sludge whose heavy metal content meets the standard is still in semi fluid state. Through the discharge port and rolling belt, it enters the sludge squeezing dehydration workshop. Here, the sludge enters the reactor, and the modifier is added at the same time. A 5-minute stirring reaction is carried out in the reactor. The sludge coming out of the reactor becomes fluid, and looks like wet sticky cement. Then, it enters the extrusion dehydrator for mechanical dehydration, which takes 40 minutes.
